The 23 players who refused to sign the contract were based purely on financial constraints. The decisive discussions those had with the officials in this regard was rather furious. It finally attended with certain players becoming not being in their normal selves having being in anger. Although they did not expose it while within the SLC, but their dissent was clearly shown when they out of the SLC premises.
Among them the player who lost his temper most was Lasith Malinga. When he was leaving the SLC premises he was confronted with the media cameramen. At that time he was not responsive to the cameramen by starring at them and not answering to their questions. When he was about to get into his vehicle he starred at the media personnel and the cameraman by been very rude to them using obscene language that should not have been spoken by a cricketer of his calibre. He behaved in a very proud and as an indispensable person.
1 st INCIDENT ON MARCH 3rd NIGHT
Q “what happened to the contract”
Answer: ‘what’s that contract? ‘We have come to attend to a party. Ash the others who came for the contract’
( Malinga closed the door of his vehicle starring at the media men and drove away)
2 nd INCIDENT ON MARCH 4th AFTERNOON
Q. “could we speak to you the media personnel, had quipped.”
ANSWER: ‘why haven’t you seen me before? You’ll better vanish and look after your work’
(After shutting the door of his vehicle he angrily went and stood behind leaning to his vehicle)
After these ugly incidents Lasith Malinga had embarrassed the television channels the National Rupavahini, the Swarnavahi and Derana Television channels which were telecast for the entire country to see. With this all his ‘BIG WORK’ done on the field diminished and were harmed to lower levels. From these incidents it clearly revealed that he had been in anger not with the Media personnel but for the immense greed he had for money.
