South Africa announce du Plessis will make debut

Cricket South Africa has announced that Francois du Plessis will make his Test debut in the second Test match between Australia and South Africa starting at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday.

Du Plessis will replace JP Duminy, who injured himself at practice during the first Test Match in Brisbane.

"The fact that he's making his debut is exciting,"captain Graeme Smith said at his pre-match press conference in Adelaide. "It's a wonderful opportunity for Faf, he has set a high standard over the last few years, he has played a role in the one-day format and T20 format. I know he is excited to get the opportunity to play Test cricket, he has been around this group solidly since England and he has been a part of some special times. I think he is looking forward to hopefully making a mark on this team."

Imran Tahir will also be recalled to the side, after her was left out of the first Test Match.

"The majority of the time we like to go in with a spinner," Smith said. "Brisbane was a slight change for us in terms of the way we go about things tactically. We are back to normal with Imran (Tahir) and I'm looking forward to him hopefully playing a big part in the Test."

Fixtures for WCL Championship announced

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has today announced the dates for the fifth round fixtures of the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League (WCL) Championship and the ICC Intercontinental Cup 2011-2013.

The latest round of fixtures for the two events that feature the top eight Associate and Affiliate Members is scheduled for March and April 2013.

Ireland currently tops both tables and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which is set to host Ireland from 12 March 2013, will have a tough task ahead of it to secure victory against the top-ranked Associate.

Meanwhile, a battle for second place in the Intercontinental Cup will take place between Afghanistan and Scotland the week before in the UAE. The Saltires are currently just two points ahead of Afghanistan in that competition, while also in second position in the WCL Championship, only two points behind Ireland.

Elsewhere, lower-ranked Kenya will take on Canada in its series scheduled to begin in the UAE on 14 March 2013, while Namibia will host the Netherlands from 11 April. Netherlands are currently sitting in third position in the WCL Championship, while Namibia is seventh.

With the top two teams after the seven-round WCL Championship qualifying automatically for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, it is a tight race at the top of the table, with only three points separating the top four teams. Ireland is currently first (13 points), Scotland is second (11 points), the Netherlands is third and the UAE is fourth (both on 10 points).

Former champion Ireland also leads the ICC Intercontinental Cup with 67 points from four matches, while only three points separate Scotland in second place (46 points), Afghanistan in third (44 points) and Namibia in fourth (43 points).

Hasan writes his name into record books

Bangladesh's Abul Hasan became only the second player in Test history to score a century on debut, while batting at number 10, as the home side staged a remarkable fightback against the West Indies despite five wickets from Fidel Edwards.

Edwards, who took 5-81, ripped through the Bangladesh top order, with most of the home side's players getting out despite having a solid start.

In a dramatic final session, Bangladesh resumed on 186-6 and soon lost two quick wickets, leaving it struggling on 193-8.

Mahmudullah (72 not out) and Abul Hasan (100 not out) then combined in a stunning partnership, which saw Hasan become only the fourth number 10 in history to make a Test century.

The current ninth wicket partnership is 163 - the world record stand is 195 for the ninth wicket by Mark Boucher and Pat Symcox against Pakistan in 1998.

Sri Lanka name squad for Australia tour

Sri Lanka has announced a 16-man squad for the tour of Australia next month.

USA and Canada share T20 double-header

The Auty Cup was completed on Saturday with a Twenty20 victory apiece for USA and Canada in Florida.

Having already won the two-day and one-day games, the tourists looked set to make a clean sweep when they won the first T20 fixture by 36 runs.

USA finally restored some pride with a comprehensive 46-run win in the second 20-over match at Lauderhill.

Canada skipper Rizwan Cheema (54 off 29 balls) and Hiral Patel (54 off 55 balls) got the visitors off to a flying start in the opening encounter with a first-wicket stand of 86 inside 11 overs.

Japen Patel (4-26) led the USA fightback and a total of 148-9 was disappointing after such a strong platform.

Timothy Surujbally (27 off 10 balls) got the run-chase off to a fine start but when he retired hurt the innings went into freefall. Jeremy Gordon (2-23), Raza-ur-Rehman (2-21) Damodar Daesrath (2-22) all took two wickets as USA were bowled out for 112.

USA exacted revenge in the day/night match when they posted the highest score of the day - 162-5 after winning the toss.

Timil Patel struck 67 not out off 55 balls while fellow top-order batsmen William Perkins (32 off 21 balls), Nicholas Standford (18 off 22 balls) and Barrington Bartley (26 off 14 balls) offered good support.

Skipper Cheema was Canada's most successful bowler with 2-20.

Canada's pursuit of 163 began in reasonable fashion but once both openers fell on 32 the innings petered out to 116 all out. Bartley completed a fine all-round display with 3-14.

Raza-ur-Rehman's 28 not out was all in vain but the defeat could not put too much of a damper on a successful tour for Canada.
