Opportunity for Bangladesh to move ahead of New Zealand on the Reliance ICC ODI Championship Table

Opportunity for Bangladesh to move ahead of New Zealand on the Reliance ICC ODI Championship Table
Bangladesh has an opportunity to move ahead of eighth-ranked New Zealand on the Reliance ICC ODI Championship Table, if it wins all the three matches against host Zimbabwe in the series that starts on Friday in Bulawayo.

Bangladesh, currently ranked ninth with 81 ratings points, trails New Zealand by just one ratings point.

A 3-0 series sweep will hand Bangladesh two ratings points that will help it move to eighth position with 83 ratings points, one ahead of New Zealand.

Even if Bangladesh was to win the series by a margin of 2-1, it will lose two ratings points to finish at 79, thereby widening the gap with New Zealand to three.

For Zimbabwe, on the other hand, a 3-0 series sweep over Bangladesh would offer an opportunity to gain 12 ratings points thereby moving from 47 to 59, but it will remain in 10th position.

Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan will start the three-match series against Zimbabwe as the highest ranked player on either side in both the batting and all-rounder's list on the Reliance ICC ODI Player Rankings.

Shakib is currently ranked 14th on the batting table and is the number-one ranked all-rounder.

Zimbabwe captain Brendan Taylor in 20th position is the highest-ranked batsman from his side.

South Africa pair of AB de Villiers and Hashim Amla share the number-one rank on the batting table, followed by India's Virat Kohli in third position.

Bangladesh's Abdur Razzak is the only bowler on either side to be ranked inside the top 10 in eighth spot.

Pakistan's Saeed Ajmal continues to lead the bowlers' table with West Indies spinner Sunil Narine in second place and England paceman Steven Finn in third place.
