Sri Lanka's Angelo Mathews believes his squad's all-rounders will play a big part in the ICC World Twenty20.The 25-year-old will be required to bowl his seamers as well as
contribute in the middle order while other members of the squad can also
multi-task.Mathews said: As far as I am concerned, I have a big part to play as an
all-rounder. We actually have quite a few all-rounders. Guys like Jeevan
Mendis and Tillakaratne Dilshan are all-rounders. It gives more balance
to the team and it helps to get the team combination right and we play a
big role for the side."Speaking at a press conference in Colombo on Tuesday, Mathews also spoke of the potency of the hosts' bowling attack.
"It is very exciting with our bowling," he added. "I think if you take
all the teams, we have the best combination. We have Lasith
[Malinga]-who has an unorthodox action-and [Nuwan] Kulasekara and then
Ajantha [Mendis] and Akila Dananjaya. Kulasekara is returning to the
side after injury and so is Ajantha and that has strengthened our side."
Mathews believes playing on home soil will put his side in a strong position to lift the ICC World T20 for the first time.
He said: "We have the home advantage. We are one of the favourites, but
most of the teams are quite even. All the sides have got their best 15
[players] and I think it will be an even contest."
Sri Lanka get the tournament underway against Zimbabwe at Hambantota on September 18.
